Drinking lemon water has long been touted as the cure, for oh just about everything. We push drinking water…lots of it for proper hydration. Will adding lemon make it better? Yes in some ways it will. Here is how:
Lemon water does help digestion, but so will plain water. Drinking any water, when you first get up in the morning will help flush the digestive system and hydrate your body. While you were sleeping you were not drinking. So give yourself a healthy dose of hydration as soon as you get up to get your body and your mind moving.
Water also acts as a natural flush for your system, your liver and lymph system. Adding some lemon will stimulate your stomach acid production and help to get that flush going. Lemon also contains vitamin C and potassium giving your immune system a boost to start the day. If you drink lemon water on a regular basis, it will decrease the acidity in your body, it also removes uric acid in your joints, which is one of the main causes of inflammation.
Your skin loves water, it loves lemon water even more. Aiding in the flushing of toxins and packed with vitamin C, B-complex vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, and fiber, it will make your skin happy!
There is plenty of evidence that drinking water, particularly lemon water, first thing in the morning can help maintain a healthy weight. Drinking water increases metabolism, flushes toxins and hydrates the body.
If you weigh less than 150 pounds, squeeze half a lemon’s worth of juice into a tall glass of water. If you are over 150 pounds, use an entire lemon’s juice. The benefits of lemon water are many and it is an easy addition to your day. Make it a habit and watch the results!
